Rachel Fellers Burriss

Rachel Fellers Burriss, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 15, 1947. Rachel was predeceased by her parents, Henry Ralph Fellers and Lurlee Shealy Fellers; her husband, Chadwick Whiteside Burriss, Jr.; and her sister, Gail Fellers.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Barnett (Donnie), and their children, Anna Kunze (Brennan) and their daughter Vivian Kunze, Chad Barnett, and Christian Barnett; daughter, Meredith Hollowell (Brett); sister, Jan Anderson (Marvin); sisters-in-law, Kathy Burriss, Marilyn Black (Gerry), and Pat Wiley(Marvin); and many nieces and nephews.

Rachel devoted her life to teaching and enriched the lives of countless schoolchildren throughout her long career, with a particular passion for teaching children to read. She also had a special love for Operation Christmas Child, lovingly preparing and donating hundreds of boxes over the years to children around the world.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at noon at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, South Carolina. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable, business-casual attire appropriate for the warm weather.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Operation Christmas Child.

To celebrate Rachel’s life and memory, her family invites friends and loved ones to join them for an Operation Christmas Child shoebox-packing event. Rachel especially loved packing shoeboxes and sharing the joy of giving with children around the world. In her memory, the family hopes to continue this tradition she loved so much. The event will be held at Addison’s Wonderland Boutique and Venue in Monroe, Georgia on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 3:30 –5:30 p.m. Those unable to attend are encouraged to fill a box in their own community during this year's Operation Christmas Child campaign.
