OBITUARY

Walter Lee Baker, 66, of Jersey, GA passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born in Covington, GA on July 3, 1959, to the late Jimmy Lee Baker and Shirley Ann Baker. He was preceded in death by not only his father but also his father-in-law, L.C. Carithers and mother-in-law Rosia Carithers. Walter Baker was truly one of a kind. As the oldest of the Baker children, he naturally became a leader, protector, and example to those who followed behind him. He was the kind of man whose presence made people feel safe, valued, and loved.

Above all else, Walter was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. His faith wasn’t something he simply spoke about, it was something he lived every day through his generosity, humility, and servant’s heart. He fulfilled Acts 20:35: I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive. He believed that the gifts God had given him were meant to be shared, and he never hesitated to use his talents to help someone in need.

Whether it was offering a helping hand, fixing something that was broken, or simply showing up when someone needed him, Walter gave freely of himself. He was found always taking care of his elderly neighbors, whether it was taking them meals or making sure that they had a birthday cake on their birthday. A skilled construction professional, Walter, took great pride in his work. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he approached every job with integrity, dedication, and excellence. He was a craftsman in every sense of the word, building not only structures but also a reputation of honesty, dependability, and hard work that earned the respect of everyone who knew him. Walter was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Marie, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.

He was a wonderful father who cherished his children and a proud PawPaw whose grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life. Some of his happiest moments were spent making memories with them, sharing laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love. To his mother, Walter was her compassionate one. He would always call to check on her and see if she needed anything. To his brothers and sisters, Walter was the best big brother anyone could ask for—a steady source of strength, guidance, encouragement, and love. He also held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and extended family. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, whether gathered for holidays, celebrations, or simple moments together. Family was never an obligation to Walter; it was one of life’s greatest blessings.

Walter’s legacy is not measured by the years he lived, but by the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind a family who adored him, friends who cherished him, and a faith that guided him throughout his life. While our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Savior he loved so dearly. A life well lived. A man deeply loved. A legacy of faith, family, service, and love that will live on for generations to come. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marie Baker of Jersey; daughter: Kisha Baker of Jersey, sons: Josh Baker of Jersey; and Justin and Candace Baker of Jersey; his mother, Shirley Baker of Covington; sisters and brother-in-law: Arlene and Lynn Head of Covington; Rhonda Allgood of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law:

Jeff and Patty Baker of Covington; and Wade and Tammy Baker of Covington, his beloved grandchildren: Carson Baker, Baileigh Baker, Brooklyn Baker, Parker Baker, and Hensley Baker; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe, GA. The funeral service will be Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 11:00am at the Jersey Holiness Church. Rev. Ben Allgood, Rev. Lynn Head, and Rev. Steve Shaneyfelt will be officiating.
