OBITUARY

Jimmy Dorsey Smallwood, a man of love and faith, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 82.

Jimmy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 10, 1943, to the late Winslow Dorsey Smallwood and the late Evelyn Smallwood Bradley. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Vandenberg, brother, Stephen Smallwood, and son-in-law James Bradford.

Jimmy shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, his devoted wife, Joan Smallwood. Together they built a family centered on faith, love, and commitment to one another. Shortly after graduating Fulton high school, he honorably served as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force where he learned skills that would lead to a long career in Information Technology.

He had a great love for the outdoors where he enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation. Some of his happiest moments were spent camping and fishing. Whether with family or friends, those times reflected his appreciation for the simple blessings of life. Jimmy also had a love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar, a pastime that brought him great joy throughout his life.

Above all, Jimmy loved the Lord and faithfully served Jesus Christ throughout his life. His faith was not only something he believed, but something he lived out every day.  Many saw his Christian character in the way he treated others with genuine kindness, humility, patience, and care. His life was a quiet but powerful testimony to the love and grace of Christ.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who treasured his family. His legacy of faith, love, and integrity will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.

Surviving members of Mr. Smallwood’s family include his loving wife, Joan Smallwood; daughter, Jennifer Bradford; son, Jimmy Smallwood (Lori); sister, Brenda Howard (Jimmy); and grandchildren, Katie Jackson (Mark), Noah Smallwood, and Zach Smallwood.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Memorial Park and Gardens in Smyrna, Georgia, with Rev. Stephen Chambers officiating.

Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
