OBITUARY

Penny Alesia Brown Carter, following a short illness, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 64. Penny will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Born in Athens, Georgia on July 5, 1961, to George Marvin and Nancy Ann Towler Brown, she was a lifelong resident of Fairplay, Georgia. Penny was a caring wife, devoted mother and grandmother, special sister, loving daughter and aunt, and a friend to many.

She attended the Morgan County schools and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Social Circle. Penny married Larry Carter, the love of her life, on April 3, 1981, and spent the next forty-five years supporting and loving him and her family.

Life was not always easy for Penny, but she was resilient, adapting to difficulties and stresses she faced. She loved routine and structure and creating beautiful images in Mindful coloring books. Penny loved to bake and was known to many for her delicious caramel cake, peanut butter balls, and oatmeal cookies.

She was kind to others, loved caring for her mother and mother-in-law, was giving and compassionate, and always tried to see the best in others. Penny loved BIG and this showed in the love she shared with her family, especially her children and grands who affectionately called her P. When she laughed, she “laughed all over.” Her daughter shared that Penny loved all of her family with her whole heart, but Lee was her baby.

Penny was predeceased by her father and her sister that she missed so much, Angela B. Malcom. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry; her mother, Ann Brown; children: Lee Carter and Anna Williamson; step-daughter, Heather Jacoby (Patrick); four grandchildren: Dawson Williford, Mallory Jacoby, Aislynn Williamson, and Jacob Williamson; great-granddaughter, Anya Williford; brother-in-law, Butch Malcom; and mother-in-law, Edna Thompson.

She is also survived by her special nephew, Justin Malcom (Melissa) and niece, Riley House of Ty Ty, Georgia. She leaves four great nieces and nephews: Rhett, Lucy, Briggs, and Blane, as well as many friends and family members who will smile when they think of Penny.

Visitation will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 17, at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00. Flowers may be delivered to the church, and for those choosing to do so, donations can be made to Ebenezer or to ESP (Extra Special People ) in Watkinsville.

Meadows Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
