OBITUARY

Tony Wayne Hutchins
May 10, 1959 - March 10, 2025

It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Wayne Hutchins on March 10, 2025. He passed peacefully beside the love of his life for 42 years, Janet (Rowe) Hutchins. 

Tony came into this world full of energy on May 10, 1959. He was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic at age 6 but that did not slow him down. As a preacher’s middle son, Tony liked to push the limit as a child and gave his father a few extra gray hairs and many extra trips to the church. He loved his brothers and often as he told it defended their honor when they were little. He loved pranks and often put garter snakes in the teacher’s desk. Tony was especially close to his grandfather, Thomas, who helped give him a love for cars. He had a love for old muscle cars, especially Camaros and Chevelles. 

When Tony met Jan, it was love at first sight. They were neighbors and his smooth talking eventually wore her down. They were married on June 5, 1983, with him in platforms and her in flats. They welcomed their shining light, Ashlea, in February 1986. He brought her up with a love for cars, farm animals, hard work, pranks, humor and most importantly the biggest caring heart. He was her biggest cheerleader in everything she did. He officially got a son, Chris, in 2013 that he loved and was so proud of, especially as a teacher and coach. 

He had many jobs over the years but finally settled down to work for Walton County. For 10 years, he was the lead mechanic for the sheriff’s department and for 12 years he was the lead mechanic for the fire department until his retirement. Not long after his retirement he developed complications from diabetes. He fought hard and always tried to keep people laughing and smiling. He loved traveling to the lake with Jan, cutting grass, and taking their dog Max on a ride on the golf cart. He also enjoyed visiting and talking with people so much that he would disappear – so Ashlea put a tracker on his phone so she could always keep tabs on him. 

He loved so many people and believed the good in them. He was honestly kind and believed in shooting it straight but never tried to do it in a mean fashion. Unless you said something about his family – then he might put you in a garbage can. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off of his back if he could. He was a 15-year-old kid still at heart. He wanted to make you laugh and you could never anticipate what would come out of his mouth, but that is what made him so loveable. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Buford Hutchins, and his grandparents, Thomas (Odessa) Hutchins, and Tommy (Ruby) Mull. 

Tony is survived by his wife, Jan (Rowe) Hutchins, loyal dog, Max(imus); daughter, Ashlea (Christopher) Mayer; grand pups, Trudy and Linus; Mother, Faye (Mull) Hutchins, Brothers, Randy (Lola) Hutchins and Neal (Angie) Hutchins; Nephew, Dylan (Madison) Hutchins; Nieces, Jessica Hutchins, Payten (Chandler) Downing and Megan (Chris) Hay; Cousin, Harriette Griffin, and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The celebration of life will be on Sunday, March 16, 2025, with the visitation from 1pm-3pm and funeral at 3pm at Meadow Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe, GA.
