OBITUARY

Jon Lamar McGaughey, age 69 of Covington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 23, 2024.  He was born on October 29, 1954 in Walton County to the late Sara Lelia Snow McGaughey and the late William Lindsey McGaughey.

Surviving are sisters and brothers in law, Sara Lindsey and Richard Sosebee, Melissa Jean and Phil Harvey, Gloria Alane Horne; nieces and nephews, Luke and Mollie Harvey, Seth and Anna Harvey, Evan Harvey, Jessica and Kevin Bale, Richard and Bradley Sosebee, Haley and Zach Huntley, Lauren and Charles Miles.

He was raised in Good Hope, GA, and grew up picking cotton, watermelons, peas and whatever else was in the fields.  He loved helping his grandfather plowing the fields with his mules and tractors.  Jon later moved to Newton County where he began his career working in construction most of his life and loved building things.

Jon had a love for the outdoors and working with his hands.  He loved his dogs and loved to fish, hunt, and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  He had made several trips across the country on his many rides. Jon also, had a love for the Lord.  Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever.  Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.  You were greatly loved and will be deeply missed.  Forever in our loving hearts.

A funeral service will be held on Friday July 26th at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Durden officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to service.
