OBITUARY

Dan James Bellor (1956 - 2024)

Dan, "Danny," "Danno," was never happier than when learning something new or being with family and friends. He was a doting, if tough sometimes, uncle and a devoted son, sibling, and friend. Dan James Bellor, 67, died at his home in Monroe, Georgia, on January 18, 2024.

Dan was unique from the start - he was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1956 to Jim and Mary Bellor. Dan was barely a year old when the family moved back to the United States. Very soon after, Dan and his big brother, Jim, each got a baby sister when twins Karen and Kay were born. The "older four" launched an early childhood of fierce games of dodgeball, construction of elaborate WWII battle scenarios, and other fun. Dan got an early start of never meeting a project he could resist, building a Swiss Family Robinson-style treehouse in the back yard that defied gravity and architectural interest. Joined by the "younger two," Mary and Patrick, Dan and his brothers and sisters enjoyed a special childhood in Falls Church, Virginia.

He attended George C. Marshall High School and completed an Associate in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering at Northern Virginia Community College. He later earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at Georgia State University. Dan worked in computers and finance throughout his career and had started to retire in 2022.

Dan was fiercely dedicated to friends and family. He was a guiding force and willing accomplice in merriment to his ten nieces and nephews. He looked forward to the Bellor family bi-annual beach week reunion, polishing up his golf skills for the Dad and brothers tourney held at the same time.

Dan was a true renaissance man, proficient in a wide range of skills. Artist, musician, woodworker, photographer, poet, and accountant, just to name a few of his endless gifts. Dan was a largely self-taught musician. He mastered multiple instruments and played in several bands. He was a beloved addition to the wedding programs of several family members.

The undiscerning visitor at his home in Monroe might be slightly overcome by the jumble of tools, parts, musical instruments, wires and other items around the house and yard. But Dan knew every inch of his Monroe homestead. He enjoyed walking guests around the yard, identifying every tree he had planted over the years. His koi pond was a decades long labor of love.

He was a voracious learner with boundless interests. He loved his dog, Panda. He will be forever remembered for his crazy genius, limitless energy, generosity, love, and devotion. His family and friends keenly miss him every day.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, James R. Bellor and sister-in-law, Cathy Mason Bellor, and is survived by his mother, Mary M. Bellor; brothers, James R. Bellor, Jr., Patrick J. Bellor; sisters, Karen B. Renstrom (Bob Renstrom) , Kay A. Bellor (Michael Myers), Mary B. Dunne (Bob Dunne); nieces and nephews, Emily Bellor, Rob Renstrom, Jimi Renstrom, Elizabeth Renstrom, Peter Mack, Lenna (John) Mack, Charles Dunne, Mae Dunne, Mason Bellor, and James Bellor.

Dan's life will be celebrated in Georgia and Virginia later in 2024.
