OBITUARY

Millie 'Peaches' Iles Oakes, age 91, of Lake Cypress Springs, TX, died on May 11, 2011. She was born in Oakdale, LA on November 20, 1919 to the late Dr. Blanchard Iles and the late Linnie Rutledge Iles. She was preceded in Death by husband, Corry Winston Oakes Sr., and her sister, Edith 'Sunny' Elledge. She was a Member of the First Baptist Church, Friendship Sunday School Class, Camelot Book Club, Bridge Clubs, The Peach Pits, and a founding member of the Monroe Country Club in GA. She began driving at age 12, graduated High School at age 15. She enrolled at LSU and later graduated from Southwestern with a BS in Education. She taught for many years in the Walton and Rockdale County School Systems. She was a Kappa Delta. She obtained her Pilot License in 1938-1939 during the Civilian Air Corp. Training. Surviving are: Sons and Daughter-in-law, Corry Winston Oakes Jr. and Linda Oakes of Social Circle, Michael Blanchard Iles Oakes of Athens; Daughters and Sons-In-Law, Judith Ann and Noel Deal of Social Circle, Ann Rutledge and Cliff Fitzgerald of Lake Cypress Springs, TX, Nell and Joe Dougherty of Australia, Dorothy Elizabeth and Troy Miller of Lake Cypress Springs, TX; Sister, Dorothy Iles Stuckey of Alexandria, LA; Grandchildren, Corry Winston Oakes III and wife Amy Nixon Oakes, Alexander Kirkland Oakes and wife Lea Thompson Oakes, Peter Iles Oakes and wife Michelle Pentecost Oakes, Parrish Iles Deal, Adam Rutledge Deal, Catherine Iles, Susie Oakes Herbstritt, Michael Blanton Oakes, Lara Oakes Pulliam and Husband Bryan Pulliam, Timothy Bernard Meehan and wife Rhonda Meehan; Great Grandchildren, Ashley Kenimer Oakes, Elizabeth Iles Oakes, Lauren Kirkland Oakes, William Alexander Oakes, Thomas Kirkland Oakes, Mary Blanchard Oakes, Hayla Celeste Stone, John Corry Oakes, Patrick Iles Oakes, Ella Grace Pulliam, Mille Katherine Pulliam; and favorite Granddog Buddy. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Monroe with Dr. Glenn Money officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eagle Ranch Children?s Home of Oakwood, GA. P.O. Box 7200, 5500 Union Church Road, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502.
