OBITUARY
Kayden Colleen Burney, age 20 of Lawrenceville GA passed away on May 7, 2022. Kayden was born to Matthew Burney and Kari Alleman on January 16, 2002 in Jacksonville NC while her father was stationed there with the United States Marine Corps. Following the family returning home to Snellville GA, Kayden was surrounded by family and a wide community of friends. Living in the same town as her grandparents, Malcolm and Donna Burney and Kathy Alleman, Kayden was blessed to have close relationships with all of them and was a true light in their lives. The later arrival of her siblings, Dwight and Baylie Woodell, would further show what a loving heart Kayden possessed.
Kayden attended Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville GA, picking up lasting friendships along the way and always had fun attending activities like football games and homecoming dances. Kayden had an active mind and busy hands, so she was always picking up new interests. There were road trips with her mom and siblings that always held so much laughter. There were fishing trips with her dad that resulted in lasting inside jokes and nicknames. She was in the archery club at school, participated in activities from la crosse to skateboarding to ice skating. During a trip to Hawaii she decided she wanted to learn how to play the ukulele, and she was quickly able to play songs for us. She taught herself how to communicate in languages including Japanese and Korean, and enjoyed learning about the different customs and cultures around the world. With the free spirit of a true adventurer Kayden took some time after finishing high school to work and travel, including spending six months in California hiking the mountains, visiting the beaches, and as always making fast friends with everyone she met.
Her greatest interest, however, was art, in many forms and expressions. She loved to draw in her sketchbooks and paint on canvas, and she also saw art in the form of hair, nail, and makeup design. Just before her passing, she had begun taking courses at the Keune Academy of Cosmetology to further her skills and knowledge. Her excitement over this opportunity was heartwarming for all around her.
We are heartbroken by the loss of her sharp wit and striking sense of humor, her sweet heart that held so much love for her friends and family, her creative spirit that shed so much light and color on us all. Kayden is survived by her father and step-mother, Matthew and Courtney Burney; mother, Kari Alleman Woodell; brother and sister, Dwight Woodell and Baylie Woodelll; grandparents, Donna and Malcolm Burney, Kathleen and Richard Alleman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Wimpey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will follow to Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
