A dear friend gone too soon.

Rusty, Karen, Rosemary and Thomas Griffin

Our deepest sympathies go to Jay's wife and family. He was my mentor and he made a permanent mark in my life. I would not be an umpire today if not for Jay. Go rest high my brother, your work on earth is done.

Justin Shorter and Family

Jay, you are a great instructor, but an even better person. I love how to taught, your humor, and candor. What I really will miss most, is how you never yelled at us, you just spoke loud enough so that everyone could hear. You will truly be missed by many. Rest easy my friend.

Ron Dean

My prayers and condolences to the Pierce family. May God keep and cover you during this difficult time.

From the first time I met Shyrel’s son Jay, it was like he had known me for a lifetime. Jay was just that kind of person to everybody he came in contact with. Our lives are all better for knowing Jay and a lot sadder for seeing him go. My heart goes out to all the family. He will be greatly missed.

I only met Jay once at Dozer Park (Peoria, IL - Midwest League) but he made a great impression on me…so much so, I told my son Aaron about him and he connected with Jay and interviewed him on his podcast. I’m so glad in my lifetime to have met Jay! RIP

Paul Gierhart

I will always remember the 18 year old student at Young Harris College getting assigned a music teacher as an advisor. Our first conversation about what he wanted to do after college. He said, I want to be an Umpire.” I said, OK, how are we going to do this.? “ it was the beginning of a wonderful friendship. I learned a lot about a profession that Jay had an enormous passion to share.
I had several opportunities to watch him work. I remember how excited he was to introduce us to Lindsey. He was special. I will cherish my memories forever.

Jay was a “genuine” friend to all he met at Young Harris College. He was always happy and continually recognized the positives: encouraging others came natural to him. Jay had a contagious smile and laugh that immediately put others at ease. I joined Jay and other friends at Country Cottage a few times for meals. I’ll cherish those memories and his friendship. Love and prayers to his family♥️
