OBITUARY
Billy Michael Conner, age 75, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024. He was born on October 27, 1949 to the late Huey Conner and the late Eva Malcom Conner. He was preceded in death by his 8 siblings.
He was a beloved husband of 43 years to Lynn Hanson Conner, proud father to son Michael Conner (Lisa); daughters, Tracy Rutledge (Jeff) and Leigh Ann Aldridge (Justin). He was an adoring “Papa” to his 5 grandchildren: Noah Conner, Emily Rutledge, Caroline Rutledge, Thomas Rutledge, and Will Rutledge. Billy was a loving friend to many and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
He lived life with a smile on his face and a spirit of service and generosity in his heart. Billy never met a stranger and always offered to help those in need. His love of nature was evident in the care of his yard and garden and the time he spent enjoying the outdoors at the lake. A lover of animals, he was always willing to offer a warm welcome, a bowl of food, and likely forever home to any animal that found its way to their house.
Billy’s passion for sports was evident throughout his life. Growing up, he was a talented athlete who excelled in football at Monroe Area High School. He had great joy in watching all 5 of his grandchildren participate in various sports, attending as many games as possible no matter the location. He was likely to be the loudest Papa cheering and quite often an unofficial coach along the fence. Teammate reunions and reminiscing about his playing days, brought joy and laughter to him and his friends.
Billy was a dedicated employee of Walton EMC for 41 years, where his exemplary service earned him both a Good Samaritan Award and a Lifesaver Citation from the Woodmen of the World in 1994 for his heroic efforts to save a local citizen’s life. He was a man of strong faith serving as a longtime member and past elder of First Presbyterian Church.
A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 2nd at Meadows Funeral Home. A Celebration of Billy’s life will take place at 11:00am on Friday January 3rd in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home, with Reverend Chris Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
