OBITUARY

Leland Stanford Cox, III, age 80, of Covington passed away on June 11, 2024. He was born on March 24, 1944 to the late Rose McGregor Cox and the late Leland Stanford Cox, Jr. He was preceded in death by his son: the late Tony Cox.

Surviving are wife: Mary Cox; son: Jonathon Fouasse (Jessica); grandchildren: Devon Fouasse, Cody Fouasse.

He served in the USMC from 1969-1971. Arriving in Vietnam on the 9th day of February 1969, spending 10 months in the jungle as a Platoon Commander, with Company E, 2nd Bn, 7th Marine Regiment, then promoted to Company Commander, Company G, 2/7. On the 11th day of December 1969 he lead the element of his company and observed 48 North Vietnamese soldiers preparing for an attack. Braving intense enemy fire, L. Cox moved to a dangerously exposed vantage point from which he pinpointed hostile targets and skillfully coordinated supporting artillery fire with the actions of his men, resulting in forty-one enemy soldiers being killed without sustaining a single Marine casualty. He was honorably discharged as Captain L. Stanford Cox, III as a well Decorated Veteran with the Bronze Star with combat V, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon with 3 stars, Vietnamese Service medal et.

After serving our country he then enrolled back into Georgia Tech where he graduated with his Bachelor's in Engineering. Mr. Cox always believed in a fine education. He then attended Emory University where he obtained his law degree, and has been in great standing with the State Bar of Georgia serving his community for 45 years providing legal services all over the state Mr. Cox showed his expertise of being a trial lawyer where he successfully won 243 Jury Trials out of 247. He not only took pride in serving our country he also took pride in Justice being served.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on June 13, 2024 at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Reverend Scott Clark and Reverend John King officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 pm on June 20, 2024 at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico in Triangle, Virginia.
